On 7 August 2019, for Matera European Capital of Culture, San Costantino Albanese is “Capital for a day”. The municipality, with the Matera-Basilicata 2019 Foundation, dedicates the event to its painter, ten years after his death.
The route starts from the walls: the murals scattered through the village streets. The Casa Parco gathers a large body of his work. And some families who keep Enzo’s paintings open their front doors: instead of museum rooms, a kitchen, a living room.
«Le opere del pittore, esposte nelle case e nei luoghi simbolo del paese, hanno acquistato un valore ancor più forte.»
The same walk takes in the small picture gallery of the church of San Costantino il Grande and the house that keeps one of Carlo Levi’s last works: three young people in Arbëresh costume, painted on the wall during a visit in December 1974.
In the evening, at the Casa Parco, the talk “San Costantino Albanese as a spread museum”, with Carlotta Ghiretti of LEAV and Lorenzo Ferrarini, and testimonies on Levi’s and Schillizzi’s work in San Costantino, led by Nicola Scaldaferri.
